A number of animals that were illegally smuggled into Turkey were seized by police as part of an anti-smuggling operation in Istanbul on June 8.

Forestry and Water Affairs Ministry's Directorate of Nature Protection and National Parks recently received information about a suspect who allegedly brought rare animals into Turkey from abroad.

Five new metro lines will run in Istanbul in the coming days, Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş has said. 

Topbaş said the instructions of the new metro lines will begin as soon as the tender process finalizes.

Beatings and insults were recently documented as happening in the classroom of a school in Istanbul's Ümraniye district. 

A 22-year-old Turkish man was shot dead with his own gun by his estranged wife early on Sept. 27 in Istanbul's Üsküdar district after he assaulted the woman following a quarrel, daily Habertürk has reported. 

Police have detained a total of 16 suspects in an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Istanbul. The operation was carried out in five districts, Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 22.

Turkish artist Mehmet Aksoy's sculpture, which was removed on Jan. 7 from its spot for 12 years in Istanbul's Ümraniye neighborhood after a court decision that the location belonged to the General Directorate of National Property, will be placed in the Avc?lar neighborhood. 

Three workers were killed after a driver crashed into a snow removal team clearing the road on the main highway to Istanbul early on Jan. 1.

The accident took place at 7 a.m. near the Ümraniye district on Istanbul's Asian side.
