2016–17 Euroleague

Another week of twin bad losses for Greek teams in the Euroleague saw them slip further at the standings, as Olympiakos lost at Maccabi and Panathinaikos suffered at the hands of Fenerbahce in Turkey.

Istanbul clubs got the better of their opponents from Greece in the Euroleague this week, as Olympiakos lost at home to Fenerbahce on Thursday and Panathinaikos went down at Anadolu Efes on Friday.

The Reds suffered their third defeat in a row losing 73-72 in Piraeus to Fener that had Greek international Costas Sloukas score 20 points to decide the game in the visitors' favor.

Olympiakos has clinched home advantage for the play-offs with its hard-fought win over Anadolu Efes, but Panathinaikos's win at Maccabi is probably more important as it kept it in the running for a top-four spot, with two games left to play.

Panathinaikos scored its third straight win downing Maccabi 76-75 in a thrilling game at Tel Aviv on Thursday.

Fenerbahçe Doğuş travels to Belgrade tonight to play Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) after moving closer to clinching home-court advantage for the playoffs by drubbing Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv 87-73 at Ülker Sports Hall on March 20.

The second “Hell-week” for Olympiacos in Euroleague came to an end with a game against Crvena Zvezda in Piraeus.

Olympiacos needed this win in order to be definitely second (with 6-2).

Crvena Zvezda wanted to win to balance the home defeat by Bamberg.
