5th Justice and Development Party Ordinary Congress

President and Chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has renewed his A-team in the party following the general convention, appointing his closest aides Binali Yıldırım and Numan Kurtulmuş as the deputy leaders and four new figures to his executive board.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has decided to seek the expulsion of former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, along with former MPs Selçuk Özdağ, Ayhan Sefer Üstün and Abdullah Başcı from its ranks.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has renewed nearly half of the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) executive management to include members of the youth organizations and representatives from business circles during a congress in which he was re-elected as chairman.  

Ahead of an extraordinary congress to be convened on May 21, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is working on to change its party regulation to appoint Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım as the acting chairman of the party, in a bid to allow him to lead an AKP parliamentary group.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) brought together prominent party figures, past and present, in a bid to mobilize them ahead of the April 16 referendum on shifting Turkey to an executive presidential system, though former President Abdullah Gül and former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu were not present at the meeting. 

British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson is to visit Ankara between Sept. 25-27 to express solidarity after the failed July 15 coup, according to a written statement issued by Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sept. 25. 

For the first time since it?s founding in 2001, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) held its regular congress without the presence of its founding leader, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, but he made his clout felt with loyal names elected to the party?s decision-making body, overshadowing Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu?s preferences after the latter?s reelection as AKP leader.
