The Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Feb. 19 that a total of 1,641 militants have been “neutralized” since the start of “Operation Olive Branch” in the northwestern Syrian district of Afrin.

The Turkish army used chemical projectiles to attack the Syrian province of Afrin, the Syrian government agency SANA reported.

A total of 1,595 militants have been "neutralized" since the beginning of Operation Olive Branch in Syria's northwestern Afrin region, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Feb. 17.

Some 500,000 Syrians are expected to go back to the northwestern Syrian district of Afrin, where Turkey is conducting a military operation to clear People’s Protection Units (YPG) militants from the region, Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said.

At least 1,551 People’s Protection Units (YPG) militants have been “neutralized” since the beginning of Turkey’s “Operation Olive Branch” in Syria’s northwestern district of Afrin, the Turkish General Staff said on Feb. 16.

Turkey’s operation into the northwestern Syrian district of Afrin, across Turkey’s border, is meant to rid the region of militants so Syrians who rightfully own the land can return, Turkey’s Ambassador to the U.S. Serdar Kılıç has said in a letter to the Wall Street Journal.

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Feb. 14 there is no evidence to prove that a Turkish attack helicopter which crashed in Syria’s northern district of Afrin on Feb. 10 went down as a result of external intervention.

Turkish army drones have captured videos of People’s Protection Units (YPG) attacks on the Turkish border provinces of Hatay and Kilis from western Afrin in Syria.
