Schools in Thessaly and Sporades islands to remain closed next week
The regional government of Thessaly and the Education Ministry are set to jointly announce that schools will remain closed in the region and the Sporades islands next week due to the destructive nature of storm Daniel.
A re-evaluation of the situation is expected next week to determine whether schools will open the following week.

Greece: Ferry Line from Thessaloniki to the Sporades Starts Operating from 1 June
A new ferry line will run three times a week from Thessaloniki to the Sporades Islands. The first ferries will depart on June 1, and the seasonal route will be available until September 15.
The Sporades is an island complex located in the northwest Aegean Sea and it includes the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, and further south the island of Skyros.

Drugs found in cave in Alonissos
A total of 103 boxes containing more than a ton of cannabis were found by Hellenic Coast Guard sniffer dogs and divers in a cave on the islet of Piperi off the coast of the central Aegean island of Alonissos, authorities said Monday.

New alliances are being forged on the Greek island of Alonissos to bolster the protection of the National Marine Park, an important habitat for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal, among other species.
Fifth century wreck opened to the public
A diver explores a 5th century shipwreck off the coast of the islet of Peristera near Alonissos in the northern Sporades, where archaeologists discovered dozens of ancient amphorae. This wreck, along with another three locations in the Pagasetic Gulf, will form Thessaly's first underwater archaeological site, as part of the EU-backed BlueMed initiative.

Alonissos to showcase underwater antiquities
The island of Alonissos in the northern Aegean Sea will host an event this weekend to promote underwater antiquities to visitors ahead of the creation of four underwater museums in the Pagasetic Gulf as part of the European Union's BlueMed project.
