Human right groups Amnesty International on Monday issued a statement urging Greek authorities to provide safe and clean housing to hundreds of migrants and refugees being evacuated from a makeshift camp at the site of the capital's former airport at Elliniko.

A group of around 30 Syrian refugees Thursday blocked the entrance to the Moria reception center on Lesvos, demanding their immediate transfer to the Kara Tepe camp, another facility on the eastern Aegean island where living conditions are better.

Amnesty International has made an urgent appeal for the shutdown of the Elliniko migrant and refugee camp on Athens's southern coast and is calling for the transfer of its 1,200 occupants to alternative shelters.

The rights organization is decrying appalling living conditions at the facility and says that women and underage girls live in constant fear of sexual and verbal abuse.

The international non-governmental organisation Amnesty International has called on Turkey's government to stop its repressions against the media and to release jailed journalists in the country, reported Voice of America, cited by Focus agency.

Amnesty International complained to the United Nations on Monday about what it said was Bosnia and Herzegovina's failure to address the longstanding legacy of sexual violence committed during the conflict of 1992 to 1995.

Egyptian authorities have frozen the assets of a prominent human rights group that works with torture victims, the head of the organization said on Nov. 10.

The move came months after authorities tried on two separate occasions to shut down the El Nadeem Centre for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture and Violence.

The office of the non-governmental organisation Amnesty International in Moscow has been closed down.

Representatives of the organisation claim they had no warning or explanation about the incident.
