Tennis: Jaqueline Cristian, Elena-Gabriela Ruse qualify for semifinals of doubles event at BRD Bucharest Open

Romanian tennis players Jaqueline Cristian and Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Friday qualified for the semifinals of the doubles event at BRD Bucharest Open, after defeating 6-3, 1-6, 13-11 the pair made of Andreea Mitu and Lara Arruabarrena from Spain. Cristian and Ruse defeated the 3rd seeded pair in 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Romanian tennis players Irina Begu and Patricia Tig will perform on Friday, on the Centre Court of the BNR Arenas, in the quarterfinals of the 250,000-USD BRD Bucharest Open tennis tournament, which takes place at the BNR Arenas in Bucharest. Irina Begu, WTA's 112th, will face off 6th seed of the tournament German Laura Siegemund in the second event of the day to be held on the Centre Court.

Romanian tennis player Andreea Mitu advanced on Thursday to the best performance of her career, by qualifying to the 3rd round of the women's Roland Garros tennis tournament, after defeating Karolina Pliskova (the Czech Republic), 12th seed, in the second Grand Slam of the year by 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Tennis: Simona Halep returns to third place in WTA rankings

Romanian Simona Halep returned to third place in the world rankings of professional tennis players (WTA), made public on Monday, after playing in the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore.

The first place is occupied by American player Serena Williams, with the second being taken by Russian player Maria Sharapova.
