Armenian–Azerbaijani clashes

Joint military drills between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan started in Baku on Sept. 12, the first such drills between the three countries.

The "Three Brothers - 2021" exercises kicked off with a solemn opening ceremony. While national anthems of the participating countries were played and their flags raised, a minute of silence was also observed to commemorate their "martyrs".

Turkey will be Azerbaijan's number one partner in military and military-technical cooperation in the near future, President Ilham Aliyev said on Aug. 13 during a meeting with a delegation led by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.  

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Aug. 13 visited Azerbaijan to observe joint military exercises.

He was accompanied by a delegation comprising army chief Gen. Yaşar Güler and top naval, land and air forces commanders.

The military exercises will also be attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Turkey has said it will continue to stand with Azerbaijan in its ongoing dispute with Armenia, calling the latter to cease disruptive and destabilizing policies in the south Caucasus.

A team of experts from Turkey has been invited to Azerbaijan for to join search for a fighter jet that crashed near the capital Baku last week, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on July 30 in a statement.     

Turkey and Azerbaijan have launched a joint military drill at the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on June 8, according to Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Azerbaijan's defence ministry announced on Sunday it was callig a unilateral ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh as fighting in the disputed region entered its second day.

Azerbaijan took the decision after international calls to end the fighting, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty informs.

Fierce clashes left at least 30 Azerbaijani and Armenian soldiers dead April 2 in the disputed as Russia and the West urged an immediate ceasefire after a major escalation in violence over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic strongly condemned the recent escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Dacic also extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
