Watch NASA’s Cassini mission come to an end 20-years after launching (video)
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft will bid farewell later this morning, after spending 13 years orbiting the Saturn system. It’s a bittersweet goodbye — the probe was launched in 1997 and has successfully lasted through two mission extensions. Today it will dive into Saturn’s atmosphere, and break apart, ending its 20-year journey.
Meet Athena Coustenis, head of planetary research in Paris
There are many Greeks who are distinguishing themselves abroad in their professional fields. One of them is Athena Coustenis, the Director of Research 1st class with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the Observatory of Paris-Meudon, in France.
This NASA photo of Saturn’s moon shows clouds you’ve never seen on Earth
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft is currently conducting a series of elaborate dives in which it repeatedly comes closer to Saturn than ever before. But during its slower periods, NASA is still using the craft’s fantastic photography equipment to grab images of Saturn’s nearby bodies, such as the moon Titan.
NASA releases breathtaking image of Saturn (photos)
NASA revealed this incredible image of Jupiter’s south pole on Friday.
It was created by citizen scientist Gabriel Fiset using data from the JunoCam instrument on NASA’s Juno spacecraft.
It shows dozens of gigantic oval storms dotting the cloudscape.
These are the closest views of Saturn we’ve ever seen
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has just flown closer to Saturn than ever before – and returned some incredible photos in the process.
Saturn moon has necessary conditions to harbor life
An ice-encrusted moon orbiting Saturn appears to have the conditions necessary for life, NASA announced on April 13, unveiling new findings made by its unmanned Cassini spacecraft.
Cassini has detected hydrogen molecules in vapor plumes emanating from cracks in the surface of Enceladus, a small ocean moon coated in a thick layer of ice, the U.S. space agency said.
NASA: Saturn's moon Enceladus may support alien life
New research from NASA indicates that Saturn's moon Enceladus may support microbial life. Details of new findings about ocean worlds in our solar system, arising from discoveries by the agency's Cassini spacecraft and the Hubble Space Telescope were announced live by the agency.
NASA live-stream on alien life and Saturn under way (watch live)
For all those that have devoted their lives trying to prove the existence of alien life form it would be a good idea to tune in to NASA’s press conference at 9pm (Greek time), as it is scheduled to reveal information it has collected regarding Saturn and alien life on Thursday.
