The European Union should generate sustainable solutions for resolving the crises in Syria, Iraq and the entire Middle East, Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev said in Lisbon on Monday following a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart Anibal Cavaco Silva.

President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday said that Romania plans to become an exporter of energy security in the region, showing that Portuguese companies have voiced their intention to invest in Romania in this area.

Iohannis pointed out, after meeting Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva, that Portugal represents a very important partner of Romania.

A Bulgarian-Portuguese business forum will take place Tuesday in Sofia.

The joint business forum will be opened by Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and his Portuguese counterpart, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, who is on a visit to Bulgaria.

There have been no proposals to Bulgaria about the potential deployment of US heavy weapons in the country, President Rosen Plevneliev has said.

Meeting his Portuguese counterpart Aníbal Cavaco Silva, who is on a visit to Sofia, Plevneliev made clear no talks had so far been held between Bulgaria and Pentagon officials.

Portugal's president said on Monday an agreement between Greece and the troika should be reached, "this week if possible."

Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev will take part in the 10th informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group in Braga, Portugal, on September 29-30.

The meeting will bring together the heads of state of Portugal, Austria, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Hungary, Finland, and Bulgaria, according to the press office of the Bulgarian President.
