Teen arrested for sharing explicit material of minor online

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, for distributing explicit photos and videos of a teenage girl, who attempted suicide upon realizing that the material had been shared online.

The suspect was arrested by officers of the police's cyber crime unit following a complaint by the girl's mother.

A 14-year-old was arrested on Friday in Paiania, eastern Attica for distributing child pornography and violating fireworks laws.

Specifically, the minor circulated visual material depicting the sexual life of an underage girl.

During a search of his residence, naval flares and four makeshift packages containing gunpowder with attached fuses were discovered and confiscated.

Complaints about illegal content on the Internet increased 18.5% in 2023, compared with the previous year, with most of them relating to financial fraud, according to data released on Wednesday by SafeLine.gr, the Greek Safer Internet Center of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas.
