German politician Sebastian Edathy pleads guilty in child porn trial

Sebastian Edathy, a former rising star in Germany's Social Democratic Party, has confessed during his trial to downloading indecent photos and videos of children from the Internet, using his official government laptop in 2013.

According to a Deutsche Welle report, following his confession on Monday, Edathy was handed by the Verden District Court a fine of 5,000 euros.

Officers of Greek police’s cyber crimes unit on Friday detained a 36-year-old man alleged to have made sexual advances to minors over the Internet.

The suspect is believed to have used social networking websites to approach young girls and convince them to send him sexually explicit photographs of themselves which he is said to have shared with other web users.

Five suspects’ homes raided as part of child porn crackdown

The homes of five men were searched as a result of a large police operation against child pornography, authorities said on Monday.

The searches, four of which were in Athens and one in Thessaloniki, led to a 43-year-old man from the capital being arrested.

Charges are due to be leveled against the other four suspects.

Police on Thursday released the name and photograph of a 51-year-old man, Isidoros Markos, who faces charges of trading in child pornography.

The suspect was arrested early last month after a raid on his home in Acharnes, northwestern Athens, turned up a wealth of material featuring the sexual exploitation of children.
