Latin America virus cases top 1 mln as UK, Russia ease lockdowns  

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Latin America have surged past one million, while hard-hit Britain and Russia eased lockdowns on June 1, despite not having their outbreaks fully under control.    

Governments around the world are moving to ease restrictions that have wrecked their economies, even as the number of cases tops 6.1 million and virus deaths exceed 371,000.    

Brazil: Justice minister resigns after 'interference'

Brazilian Justice Minister Sergio Moro resigned on April 24 after President Jair Bolsonaro removed his "trusted man" from the federal police.

At a press conference, Moro said he was stepping down due to "political interference" in the appointment of chiefs, directors and superintendents "from politics and not due to technical merits".

India showcases military strength at Republic Day

India on Jan. 26 showcased its military strength at an event marking the country's 71st Republic Day.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest at the event held in the capital New Delhi.
This was the third time that India invited a Brazilian president as the chief guest at the Republic Day event.
