Corruption scandal in Turkey

British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson paid a visit to the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Sept. 26, holding a series of meetings with Turkish officials and Syrians taking refuge in government camps.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was actually very "cool" on the first evening of his recent trip to the U.S. He had a meeting right across from Hotel Peninsula, where he was staying, at the St. Regis Hotel. He walked there slowly, in a relaxed way, speaking to everybody and posing for photos. 

Turkish singer Ebru Gündeş has filed for divorce from Iranian born Turkish businessman Reza Zarrab, who was arrested in Miami on charges of money laundering and sanctions evasion in March.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned media to be more sensitive regarding the probes into the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), saying the media should avoid labelling people as Gülenists. 

Some 2839 Turkish Armed Forces officers have been arrested as of Saturday evening, less than 24 hours after an attempted coup d'etat in Turkey was thwarted, officials say.

The arrested military include two generals, but no names are given.

Another 2745 Turkish judges have been dismissed in the wake of the coup attempt, according to Anadolu Agency.

The newly elected leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Binali Yildirim, announced the new Turkish government on Tuesday after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

The executives of a major Turkish company and a number of bankers were among 100 people detained by police on April 19 over allegations of funding the movement of U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, prosecutors and company officials have said. 

It is not every day that a U.S. attorney becomes a public hero for a whole class of people in Turkey, but that is the case with Preet Bharara, who indicted Reza Zarrab. Thanks to Bharara's legal work, Zarrab will to stand trial in New York for violating Iranian sanctions, money laundering, and defrauding the U.S. government. 

Reza Zarrab, an Iranian-born Turkish businessman who was arrested in Miami on March 21, holds the vast majority of Iran's jailed billionaire tycoon Babak Zanjani's fortune, according to documents held by Iran, Iranian MP Amir Abbas Soltani has stated.

The Turkish government has "no worries" regarding the ongoing investigation in the United States against a controversial Iranian-born Turkish businessman Reza Zarrab, Justice Minister Bekir Bozda? has said.
