Turkey aims to have quarter of inner-city commutes by bicycle
The World Resources Institute (WRI) Turkey Sustainable Cities aims to have 1 in every 10 inner-city commutes by bicycle in Turkey in the mid-term and a quarter in the longer term to reduce emissions in transportation and as a key component in the fight against climate change, Güneş Cansız, director of WRI Turkey Sustainable Cities, told Anadolu Agency in an interview.
French bicyclist impressed with central Turkey
A French traveler who stopped in the central province of Konya en route to China, was impressed with the city's bicycle-friendly transportation network and facilities.
Alexis Bottemer, 25, from France started to pedal in July, with an eventual aim of reaching China by following the historical Silk Road route.

Schoolteacher imparts cycling lessons to nearly 3,000 students
A cycling club called "Özgür Pedallar Bisiklet Kulubü," which can be translated as "Free Pedals Biking Club," established by a schoolteacher has imparted cycling lessons to nearly 3,000 students in three years, according to daily Hürriyet.
"We aim to raise a happy generation through our cycling club," said 43-year-old Savaş Öztorun, the founder of the club.
More than 300 km of bike paths upgraded with EU project

The cities of Karditsa in central Greece and Rethymno on the island of Crete received distinctions as part of European Mobility Week 2019 for their efforts to promote safe walking and cycling.
Karditsa came first in the category of small towns (less than 50,000 inhabitants), while Rethymno was second in the category of large cities.
Presidential Cycling Tour canceled over COVID-19
Turkey canceled its Presidential Cycling Tour due to risks relating to the novel coronavirus.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Cycling Federation President Erol Küçükbakırcı said the next year's race would be held in April 2021.

Turkey delays bicycle races due to COVID-19 pandemic
All cycling competitions to be held in Turkey until June have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Turkish Cycling Federation announced on April 13.
"All scheduled activities until June 6 are postponed to a later date because of the coronavirus pandemic. New racing calendar will be announced later," the federation said in a statement.
"I don't think anything went right or wrong, I don't know or care who's behind this"
He stressed that the elections are in April and that the citizens in those elections will show where and how they sees their future.
Asked by reporters in Drvar if the "1 in 5 Million" voters turn out would mean that the boycott campaign had failed, Vucic replied:
Dumped bikes, bicycles to be cleared from Athens sidewalks
As part of its bid to free up public space, the City of Athens is pressing forward with plans to remove more than 800 abandoned bicycles and motorbikes from the streets and sidewalks of the capital.
Some of the bikes have been recorded by the municipality's sanitation and recycling department, others by members of the municipal police and others still reported by citizens.
