Cyprus talks a 'last opportunity,' Turkey foreign minister says

Current talks on reuniting the divided island of Cyprus are a "last opportunity" and five-party negotiations that include Turkey, Greece and the United Nations should start swiftly, Ankara's foreign minister said on Sunday.

Mevlut Cavusoglu made the comment at a joint news conference with his Chinese counterpart in Ankara.

End game or game over

The Mont Pelerin rendezvous of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders was slated to be an "end game" but it turned out to be an almost "game over." Upon request of the Greek Cypriot leaders, the deadlocked talks were suspended for one week and are scheduled to resume, this time in Geneva, on Nov. 20.

'Significant progress' made in Cyprus talks, negotiations to resume on Nov 20: UN

Cyprus peace talks ended late on Nov. 11 in Switzerland without a final deal despite UN claims of "significant progress."

The high-level negotiations will resume in Geneva on Nov. 20.

Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades were engaged in sustained negotiations in Mont Pelerin since Nov. 7 under the auspices of the UN.
