The mild aftershock sequence after the 6.1 Richter earthquake that caused a woman’s death and serious damages to Lesvos island in Greece, is a matter of concern to scientists who believe that the nearly one hundred small earthquakes that have been recorded, are not enough to put an end to the seismic energy that gave her vibration on Monday.

Ankara mayor suggests Aegean quake 'artificial,' calls for investigation

Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek has suggested that the 6.1 magnitude earthquake which hit the Aegean Sea on Monday could have been the result of seismic testing.

The quake struck south of Greece's Lesvos island killing one woman, injuring 10 and badly damaging buildings and roads.

Ankara mayor again implies foreign powers behind 'artificial earthquake' after Aegean temblor

The 6.2-magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea on June 12 might have been caused artificially, Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek has said once again, demanding an investigation of seismic ships belonging to other countries in the area.

"Now I think that this might be an artificial earthquake. I do not say it is certain but it is a very serious possibility," Gökçek tweeted.

Breaking: Powerful 6.1 tremor strikes near Mytilene

A powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake has hit off the coast of the Greek island of Lesvos in the eastern Aegean Sea. The tremor was felt in Athens. So far there have been no reports on any injuries. “The earthquake was especially powerful. So far we do not have the exact picture of the damage or any injuries”, said the mayor of the island of Lesvos, Spyros Galinos.

Weak Earthquake Registered Nearby Devin

A 2 - magnitude earthquake is registered on the territory of Bulgaria, nearby Devin, reported BGNES.

The earthquake is felt at 10.19 am with an epicenter 6 km northeast of Devin, 32 km northwest of Smolyan and 136 km southeast of Sofia, with a depth of 15 km, the European Seismological Center said.

No information on damage from the quake has been provided yet.

Powerful 4.0 earthquake rocks Rhodes

A powerful 4.0 magnitude aftershock rocked the island of Rhodes a little after 4pm, Wednesday, following the main 5.1 shocker that hit earlier at 2.30pm. The new tremor was 105km northeast of the island at a depth of 10km. The first earthquake hit 70km off the coast. Both earthquakes were felt on the Rhodes and the surrounding islands. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Small Earthquake Near Devin

A 2.9-magnitude earthquake is registered on the territory of Bulgaria, nearby Devin,reported BGNES.

The earth tremors are felt at 23:33 p.m. last night with epicenter 15 km north of Devin, 37 km northwest of Smolyan, and 131 km southeast of Sofia, in depth of 2 km.

There is no information for any material damage.
