An Egyptian criminal court on April 21 sentenced ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi to 20 years in prison over the killing of protesters in 2012, the first verdict to be issued against the country's first freely elected leader.
                   

ALEXANDRIA - Former Serbian president and leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDS) Boris Tadic was appointed as member of the Board of Trustees of the Library of Alexandria, SDS said in a release on Monday.

An Egyptian court sentenced 22 members of the Muslim Brotherhood to death on April 20 over an attack on a police station in a district outside Cairo in 2013, judicial sources said. 

The assault was part of a wave of violence that rocked the country after the army removed elected Islamist president Mohamed Mursi from power following mass protests against his rule in June 2013. 

Egypt's ex-president Mohamed Morsi faces being sentenced to death April 21 on charges of inciting the killing of protestors in the first verdict against him nearly two years after his fall from power.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia are considering holding joint military manoeuvres in the kingdom as the allies carry out air strikes in its neighbour Yemen, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's office said.
      
Other Gulf Arab countries would also participate, the Egyptian president's office said late Tuesday.
      

A Cairo court has confirmed death sentences for Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie and 13 others over Islamist protest violence, while the jailing of a U.S.-Egyptian citizen for life was slammed by the White House.

Two of the 14 defendants sentenced to death have fled the country and will immediately face a retrial if apprehended.

An Egyptian court confirmed the death sentence of the Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie and thirteen others for planning attacks against the state.

The court also sentenced a US-Egyptian citizen and several others to life imprisonment, the BBC reports.

The sentence of Badie, who is also involved in several other trials, is subject to appeal.

A bomb exploded near a police checkpoint on bridge in an affluent Cairo neighbourhood on April 5, killing an officer, Egyptian police officials said.
      
The bomb had been placed next to the checkpoint on a side of the May 15 bridge located in the neighbourhood of Zamalek, the officials said.
      

The United States announced on March 31 it was lifting its hold on the supply of military equipment to Egypt, which was frozen when the military took power in Cairo nearly two years ago.
   

The Egypt International Economy Conference organized in the Egyptian resort Sharm el-Sheikh in mid-March resulted in a contract worth $36.2 billion.
