Share of new electric cars doubles, still lags the EU

Newly bought electric vehicles doubled their share in Greece in the first half of 2023 but are still lagging behind EU purchases, suggesting that the incentives provided by the government may not be enough.

In Greece, 4.60% of newly purchased cars were battery-rechargeable, compared to 12.90% in the EU.

New car sales up nearly 14%

New car sales in July rose 13.9% compared to July 2022. Since the start of the year, they have risen 26% compared to January-July 2022.

Part of it is due to delayed orders because of earlier disruptions in global supply chains.

Electric and hybrid cars are catching on, with rechargeable models making up 10.1% of July sales, from 5.4% in July 2022.
