Greece calls for 2-month spectator ban at soccer matches

The Greek government has asked the Super League to hold championship matches without spectators for two months because of the risk of trouble. 

This measure, announced by government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis on Monday after a meeting at Maximos Mansion on Sunday, follows serious clashes involving sports fans that resulted in a police officer being critically injured by a flare.

Bayern fans beaten ahead of game with Olympiacos

At least four German fans of Bayern Munich were injured on Tuesday evening when dozens of men barged into Olympiacos' training center in Rendi, Athens, during a game between the two clubs' under-19 teams and attacked them.

The incident took place just hours before a Champions League clash between the two clubs in Piraeus.

Bus destroyed in suspected arson attack in downtown Athens

Greek police Friday were investigating a suspected arson attack on a tourist bus near downtown Karaiskaki Square at around 5 a.m.
Two fire engines were dispatched to respond to the incident.
The vehicle, believed to be owned by an Albanian company, was completely destroyed but there were no reports of injuries. 

Officer hurt in attack on patrol car after soccer match

A police officer sustained minor injuries during an attack on a patrol car in Piraeus on Sunday shortly after a soccer match at the Karaiskaki stadium

The attack involved 10 people sticks and stones and came shortly after Olympiakos beat visiting Xanthi 4-0.

The patrol car was damaged in the assault which ended without arrests as the assailants fled.

Many things are about to change in the national team set-up following the elimination to Croatia from the 2018 World Cup, but manager Michael Skibbe is not one of them.

After 12 years at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, the national team will likely relocate to the Olympic Stadium of Athens and the Kaftanzoglio Stadium in Thessaloniki.
