Greek fighter jet crashes into sea, pilot rescued

A Greek Air Force F-16 (Block 52+ variant) fighter jet crashed into a sea off the small island of Psathoura, in the northern Aegean.

The pilot managed to escape from the single seater aircraft using the ejection system. He was located and collected by a Super Puma helicopter and is being transferred to hospital.

There are also injured.
The police announced that at least 16 people were dead, including two children. Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and his assistant were also killed. The helicopter that crashed belonged to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, i.e. the emergency department.

3 missing surfers found

Three surfers that had gone missing earlier Thursday have been found and are in good health, Greece's coast guard has announced.

The three made it back to the coast, northeast of Athens, on their own, the coast guard say.

Search under way for three surfers off Schinias

The Hellenic Coast Guard on Thursday launched a search for three surfers reported missing off Schinias in northeastern Attica. 

A Coast Guard vessel was being aided by a private vessel while a Super Puma navy rescue helicopter was to join the search. 

Winds in the area were north-northwesterly and measuring 6 on the Beaufort scale when the surfers went missing. 

Accident over Aegean narrowly averted

An accident was narrowly averted on Friday after a Turkish F-16 fighter jet reportedly harassed a Greek Super Puma helicopter, according to reports that emerged on Saturday.

The incident occurred shortly before noon south of the eastern Aegean islet of Farmakonisi as the Super Puma conducted a search for a boat carrying illegal migrants.
