Two billion people are living in poverty while 753 million others experience extreme poverty and are struggling to survive, according to the Global Humanitarian Assistance Report 2018.

UNISEF: Almost 30 million children live under poverty line in Arab world
A study conducted by the United Nations children’s agency has found that one in four children in the Arab world lives in poverty and is deprived of basic necessities.
The study released on Monday by UNICEF found that 29 million Arab children were living in poverty.

Some 7.2 million children in Turkey lived in households suffering from severe material deprivation in 2015, a fresh report has revealed.

Brazen Bulgarian gangs "terrorise the elderly and rob them over their life savings with increasingly aggressive phone scams nettling millions of euros," according to an AFP story.
Tactics used range "from impersonating police to hurt loved ones", according to the report carried by Daily Sabah newspaper.

Governments pledge $75 bln to World Bank's poorest countries fund
The World Bank said late on Dec. 15 that 48 governments have ratcheted up the fight against extreme poverty by committing $75 billion in new funds to the International Development Association, the bank's fund for the poorest countries.

In Turkey, one in three children suffers from extreme poverty. That is more than 7 million children in total. Out of 20 million children, 15 million cannot have a one-week vacation in a year. Almost half of them cannot eat meat, chicken or fish.

70 percent of Syria refugees in Lebanon live in 'extreme poverty': UN
More than two-thirds of Syrian refugees in Lebanon live in extreme poverty, according to a United Nations study published on Dec. 23, up nearly 50 percent from last year.
Based on an assessment of more than 4,000 refugee households, the report found that an estimated 70 percent of them are living below the Lebanese extreme poverty line of $3.84 (3.52 euros) per day.

His Majesty has said he believed early elections on Nov. 1 would ?clear up the problems created by the June 7? parliamentary elections. The problems? His (and his Grand Vizier?s) problems. 60 percent of Turks (and Kurds) have no problem about the fact that the president?s popularity shrank to 40 percent on June 7. He wants to roll the dice again for he has nothing to lose.
