GPs are no longer required to disclose their mobile phones to be called at any time. In the evenings and at weekends, patients will be able to call medical practices with which their GP has contracted. The limits also fall for the referrals for dispensary patients.

Ljubljana – The Health Ministry has approved five of the 34 applications for recognition of professional qualifications of doctors from third countries that have ben submitted this year, and eight of the 42 applications submitted last year.

Ljubljana – The Medical Chamber has called for efforts to improve the status of doctors, as it warned that their current pay, not comparable to Western European countries in terms of workload, is resulting in brain drain. Young doctors are less and less likely to take up certain medical specialties due to difficult working conditions, it said.

Health Ministry Undersecretary Eyüp Gümüş said chronic diseases would also be tracked if detected in checkups. 

Primary care physicians across the country began a three-day strike May 20 against working on weekends, which the Health Ministry had made obligatory earlier this year. 

Family physicians are going on a three-day strike as of May 20 to protest working on weekends, an obligation which was brought forth by the health ministry. 

Family physicians will be on strike between May 20 and 22, but as May 19 is an official Turkish holiday and the weekend falls after May 22, family physicians will not offer services for a total of six days.
