Medical Chamber calls for improving doctors’ status

Ljubljana – The Medical Chamber has called for efforts to improve the status of doctors, as it warned that their current pay, not comparable to Western European countries in terms of workload, is resulting in brain drain. Young doctors are less and less likely to take up certain medical specialties due to difficult working conditions, it said.

The Turkish Health Ministry is planning to make every citizen receive checkups by setting up "healthy living centers" slated to accommodate 50,000 people each. 

Health Ministry Undersecretary Eyüp Gümüş said chronic diseases would also be tracked if detected in checkups. 

Family physicians strike to protest weekend shifts

Family physicians are going on a three-day strike as of May 20 to protest working on weekends, an obligation which was brought forth by the health ministry. 

Family physicians will be on strike between May 20 and 22, but as May 19 is an official Turkish holiday and the weekend falls after May 22, family physicians will not offer services for a total of six days.
