Scottish Couple Run Animal Shelter in Bulgaria's Rudozem

A Scottish couple living in Bulgaria since 2007 have set up an animal shelter for stray cats and dogs, the New York Daily News  reports.

Tony and Diane Rowles initially relocated in search for "a more peaceful life" in Rudozem, Southern Bulgaria, but now look after nearly 200 animals they have either rescued or been given by other people who heard about their work.

Internet cafe in western Turkey risks closure over hosting stray cats

A municipality in the western province of Bolu has cited "having stray cats inside" as justification for issuing a closure warning to a local Internet cafe, but its owner has vowed not to throw the cats out onto the street.

Bolu Municipality police officials stated that having cats inside the cafe was one of the reasons to warn the Internet cafe run by Olcay Özkök with closure. 

A five-star town for cats

A "cat town" has been established after two years of work in the northern province of Samsun with the aim of giving a healthy and comfortable life to stray cats. 

The Samsun Metropolitan Municipality established the facility, named "cat town," on a 100-square-meter area in its animal shelter. Sick cats will also be treated in the facility.

Local residents and officials have been mobilized to save a stray cat from the under the hood of a car in eastern Turkey. A local man named Nurullah Kurman discovered that a cat was stuck near the engine of his car on Dec. 16, after having difficulty controlling his vehicle while driving home in the southeastern province of Van.
