Flu claims five lives in last two weeks

Five people have died of complications related to the flu in the past two weeks, data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) showed on Thursday, suggesting that the flu season is getting under way.

None had received a flu vaccination, KEELPNO said.

Last year's flu season started in mid-December and was particularly harsh, claiming 108 lives.

Schools to Remain Closed by January 09

Christmas holidays of school students will continue by January 06, Friday, due to fears of a flu epidemic, Bulgaria's Education Ministry has said.

Schools were to reopen no January 05.

However, a third of Bulgaria's municipalities have already registered a flu epidemic, and authorities are trying to prevent the disease from spreading further.
