21st Aydın Doğan Award goes to Neş'e Erdok

The 21st Aydın Doğan Award has been granted to Turkish contemporary painter Neş'e Erdok, according to the Aydın Doğan Foundation.

The award, which has been issued since the establishment of the foundation in 1996, aims to encourage and reward individuals who have committed their careers to contributing to humanity in the fields of arts, science and culture.  

'Statue of Liberty was a Muslim'

The Statue of Liberty was originally designed to be a Muslim woman, the Smithsonian Institution's magazine has claimed.

An article on the government-administered museum's blog, Smart News, claims one of the designers of Lady Liberty drew inspiration from monuments in Egypt and originally intended to construct a veiled female peasant on the Suez Canal.

Sculpture by Miro displayed at Baksı Museum

Joan Miro’s bronze sculpture “Femme aux beaux seins” (The Woman with Beautiful Breasts), is on display at the Baksı Museum, which won the Council of Europe Museum Prize for 2014

The museum was established in 2010 in the village of Baksı by Professor Hüsamettin Koçan and is located 45 kilometers away from the eastern Black Sea city of Bayburt.
