Head of Turkish bars union describes attack on columnist as 'fascism'

Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) head Metin Feyzio?lu has condemned the physical assault on Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan, describing the attack as ?fascism.?

?If we ignore this attack and keep quiet, even our houses will turn into dark prisons,? Feyzio?lu said in a written statement on Oct. 1.

Three soldiers killed in PKK attacks in southeastern Turkey

Three soldiers were killed on Oct. 1 in separate attacks by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) attacks in southeastern Turkey. 

Two specialized sergeants were killed on Oct. 1 in a PKK attack in the Silvan district of the southeastern province of Diyarbak?r, while another soldier was killed in a roadside bomb in ??rnak's Beytü??ebap district.

Russia informed Turkey about airstrike in Syria

Russia has informed Turkey about the airstrike launched in Syria on Sept. 30, a Russian Embassy official has stated.

"Today we informed the Turkish authorities about the military operation," Russian Embassy spokesperson Igor Mityakov told the Hürriyet Daily News, adding that notification was made through the embassy in Ankara.

24 Syrians found in two-room basement in Edirne

Some 24 Syrian migrants including children and women have been found by police in a two-room slum in Turkey's northwestern province of Edirne bordering Bulgaria and Greece, living in harsh conditions in a basement flat.

Syrian migrants bidding to cross to Europe have been camping and waiting for 10 days in Edirne, but have been told by the authorities to leave the city.

Turkish man dies after staying in Bursa hospital for 47 years

A man who was allowed to stay at a hospital in Turkey's western province of Bursa for 47 years "because he got along well with hospital personnel" has died at the age of 70 at the same hospital.

Abdullah Kozan, 70, died in Muradiye State Hospital on Sept. 25 in his room, where he had stayed for the previous 47 years.
