German airline Lufthansa said on March 17 that low oil prices and booming passenger business sent profits soaring in 2015, a year marred by the Germanwings crash and drawn-out industrial action by pilots and crew.

Pilots at German airline Lufthansa said on Sept. 7 they will stage new walkouts on freight and long-haul passenger services on Sept. 8 in their long-running dispute with management over early retirement provisions.

A Germanwings plane bound for Turkey landed at Sofia Airport on Sunday after suspicions it had been struck by a "bird", the BGNES wire service reports.

A thorough inspection that followed did not establish any damage done to the engines.

The aircraft took off at 11:20, just below an hour after landing.
