Piraeus murder case solved

Police said Monday that they had cracked the case of an accountant murdered in his home in Nikaia, near Piraeus, in August, announcing the arrest of his 24-year-old nephew. The 54-year-old had died after suffering multiple stab wounds.

According to the investigation the two men had quarreled before the stabbing over personal differences.

Searching for traces of ancient Temple of Athena in Turkey's Manisa

In the Yuntdağı region of the western province of Manisa's Yunusemre district, excavation works have commenced in order to unearth the Temple of Athena in the ancient city of Aigai.

Archeologists have rolled up their sleeves to find the Temple of Athena, in the 2,800-year-old ancient city of Aigai, which appeared in 19th-century excavation research by German archeologists.

The oil slik caused near the island of Salamina on Sunday when crude oil tanker “Agia Zoni II” sank has spread to the port of Piraeus. The pollution reached the region of Frettyda, a residential area in Piraeus located in the southeastern part of the city near the Zea harbour.

ISAP stoppages Tuesday, Friday

Services on the Athens-Piraeus urban electric railway (ISAP) will be disrupted on Tuesday and Friday when employees are planning work stoppages to protest transfers and streamlining at the organization.

Specifically, there will be no services after 9 p.m. on Tuesday nor on Friday between noon and 3 p.m.

Traffic peaks in holiday exodus from Athens

Passengers are seen boarding a ferry at Piraeus port on Saturday ahead of the August 15 national holiday, traditionally viewed as the peak of the Greek summer season. An estimated 23,760 passengers left the country's main port for the Aegean islands on Friday. Another 8,648 and 3,150 reportedly departed from the ports of Rafina and Lavrio on the same day.

Roman Ruins Discovered Under Site Earmarked For French Housing Estate

Ruins of an ancient Roman neighbourhood described as a "little Pompeii", have been discovered on a site intended for social housing in southern France, The Independent reported.

Called an "exceptional discovery" by the French culture ministry, the 7,000sq m (75,000 sq ft) find in Vienne, a small town to the south of Lyon, includes luxury house and public buildings.
