A British Court Sentenced Bulgarian Heroin Trafficker to 14 Years in Prison

British court sentenced Bulgarian citizen Vassil Stoyanov to 14 years in prison for GBP 11 million of heroin traffic, the British website kentonline.co.uk said.

The high-quality drug was discovered in the eastern docks of the Dover port during a check on a ferry arrived by a French Bulgarian lorry. On papers the truck was loaded with charcoal.

Around one-and-a-half tons of heroin seized in poultry farm in Turkey's Sakarya

Turkish anti-drug squads have seized 1.4 tons of heroin in a poultry farm in the northwestern province of Sakarya in an operation, the governor of Istanbul said on July 26. 

Governor Vasip Şahin told reporters that it was the highest amount of heroin seized in a ground operation in the last 15 years.

Southeast Asian nations torch $1 billion of seized drugs

Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia torched nearly $1 billion worth of seized narcotics on June 26, a defiant show of force as police struggle to stem the rising flow of drugs in the region.

The burnings, to mark the U.N.'s world anti-drugs day, follow another year of record seizures of narcotics from the remote borderlands of Myanmar, Laos, southern China and northern Thailand.

Drug overdoses on rise in Europe: EU watchdog

Death by drug overdose is on the rise in Europe spurred by more lethal strains of heroin, the EU's drug monitoring body warned in a report released on June 6.

A total of 8,441 people succumbed to a drug overdose in 2015, a total that has risen for the third consecutive year, the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Addiction said.

Cheap synthetic drug spreading in dangerous levels in Turkey

The cheap synthetic drug known as "bonsai" has spread to dangerous levels in Turkey, with around 500,000 people known to be using the drug in the country, daily BirGün reported on May 30.

There are around 1.5 million drug addicts in Turkey, with approximately a third of them using bonsai, the daily reported.

Turkey Seizes Record Amount of Heroin at Border With Bulgaria

Police in Edime have reported that Turkish border police have seized 775kg of heroin at the Hemzabeyli border crossing on the border with Bulgaria, quoted by BNR.

The record quantity of drugs was found in a truck with an Iranian registration traveling from Iran through Turkey and Bulgaria to Romania.
