Herpetologist in intensive care after snakebite
A 40-year-old herpetologist is in intensive care in hospital after being bitten by a viper in a Thessaloniki school.
The incident happened on Friday evening when the volunteer herpetologist - a zoologist who studies reptiles and amphibians - was called to the school to trap a viper spotted by a teacher.

Another endangered turtle fatally injured
A passerby looks at a fatally injured loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) on Karathonas Beach near Nafplio, in the northern Peloponnese, on Saturday. The turtle washed up on the beach earlier in the day with multiple injuries across its body, possibly from a boat propellor, in one of several similar incidents reported in the area over the past few weeks.

European court accepts Commission's appeal against Greece over Caretta caretta
Greece was found guilty on Thursday by the European Court of Justice of failing to comply with European Union rules concerning the protection of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) in the Bay of Kyparissia, in the western Peloponnese.
Who is responsible for the mysterious sea turtle deaths on Naxos? (pics)
A string of mysterious caretta caretta sea turtle deaths have been noted around Naxos. The thirteenth turtle with stab wounds to its neck this year was found by swimmers at the region of Grotta.
The Naxos Wildlife Protection Fund is calling on local authorities to take action to secure the safety of the protected species against fishermen.

A caretta caretta, or loggerhead turtle, has been found wounded in a touristic southern province of Turkey. The citizens who discovered the injured turtle made a great effort to ensure its well-being before it could be taken to a rehabilitation center.

The rescue of a sea turtle off Crete (vid)
A dead caretta-caretta sea turtle was found off the coast at Petre Beach, Rethymnon, Crete, after being captured in a net. Another nearby sea turtle however was luckier. Cretans who saw the turtle managed to rescue the turtle and free it from the fishermen’s nets.

Caretta caretta eggs begin to hatch in southern Turkey
A number of eggs belonging to the caretta caretta, or loggerhead turtle, and the chelonian mydas, both species of marine turtle under conservation, have begun to hatch on the beaches of the southern province of Mersin.

A member of the caretta caretta sea turtle community which has been severely injured by a boat is due to receive a 3-D chin thanks to the efforts of the Sea Turtle Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER).
