A ship carrying 4,000 tons of food for beleaguered Qatar left Turkey early on June 22, marking a change in how essential supplies are being sent to the tiny Gulf state.    
    
The vessel, carrying dry food, fruits and vegetables, departed from İzmir in western Turkey.

The Qatar crisis is no surprise for those who follow the Middle East closely and know enough about this small country's curious rise as a regional player. Many observers of Mideast politics have defined the process of the rise and fall as Qatar as a story of its failed ambitions, but the politics of Qatar is more complex.

In a phone call on June 16 with Qatari and French leaders, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged dialogue to help resolve the Gulf crisis over Qatar, according to a presidential source.

In a trilateral conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron, Erdoğan brought up recent issues in the Gulf, said the source.

Acting PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met on Friday with Ambassador of Qatar Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahad Al-Thani, the Serbian government has announced.

The Qatari diplomat informed Dacic "about the views of his government regarding the current crisis in relations between the Persian Gulf countries."

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will visit Mecca on June 16 and meet Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud as part of Turkey's efforts to calm down the ongoing crisis between Qatar and other Gulf countries. 

Çavuşoğlu will share "Turkey's sincere opinion" regarding the crisis during his visit to Mecca, he said in Kuwait on June 16 after talks in Qatar on June 15.

The crisis between Qatar and some Arab countries should be resolved "through peace and dialogue," Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said June 14.

There is a big potential to improve economic relations between Turkey and Qatar, the cousin of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the chairman of a large company has told daily Hürriyet, adding that the Gulf country is looking to conduct more investments in the Turkish market. 

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Qatar on June 14 amid regional tensions between Gulf states.

He was accompanied by Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci.
