Scientists who study Mars have revealed the remarkable Christmas gift they received from the planet last year.

On Dec. 24, 2021, a meteorite hit Mars' surface, triggering magnitude 4 tremors, which were detected by NASA's InSight spacecraft, which landed on the planet four years ago, some 3,500 kilometers away.

France's National Space Research Center has announced that the domed probe, called the Seismic Experiment for the Internal Structure (SEIS), has experienced a quake.

Starting Tuesday, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is posting the highs and lows online , along with wind speed and atmospheric pressure from the InSight lander, AP News reported. 

Two rocks on Mars have been named by NASA with words from the Cypriot dialect. This is the first time NASA adopts words from the Cypriot dialect to name objects on the red planet said 33-year-old Cypriot scientist Dr Konstantinos Charalambous, who is working on NASA's InSight mission.

Cheers and applause erupted at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Monday as a waist-high unmanned lander, called InSight, touched down on Mars, capping a nearly seven-year journey from design to launch to landing, reports AFP.

The Mars InSight lander, which blasted off in May, is due to touchdown tomorrow morning (November 27) just before 7:00am AEDT.

An Atlas 5 rocket soared into space early on May 5 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, carrying NASA's first robotic lander designed for exploring the deep interior of another planet on its voyage to Mars.
