Book Bazaar | Thessaloniki | June 20 & 21

The National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation (MIET) and its Archive of Greek Literature and History (ELIA) are hosting a bazaar at MIET's Kapandji Villa, with discounts coming to as much as 70 percent on selected books, magazines, postcards, old newspapers and other memorabilia from the 19th and 20th centuries, in Greek as well as other languages.

An iconic restaurant founded in 1901 in the historic Spice Bazaar and popular spot among international celebrities is set to close due to a dramatic plunge in the number of foreign tourists visiting Istanbul and ongoing restoration works in the bazaar, daily Habertürk reported on Oct. 22. 

Syrian Man Shot Near Central Sofia 'Involved in People Smuggling'

The Syrian national wounded in a shooting on Monday was involved in a people smuggling affair, Interior Ministry sources say, cited by daily 24 Chasa.

The retailer who owns a stand at Iliyantsi, a bazaar on the outskirts of Sofia, allegedly took EUR 100 000 for services that included organizing migrant groups and acting as a broker between them and the smugglers themselves.

Looking through the Grand Bazaar

Istanbul means the Grand Bazaar in a sense. The bazaar was first built by the Byzantine Empire, but the Ottomans carried on and expanded the building further. The bazaar was one of the first covered markets of the world. Nearly 600 years later, the building still stands. The bazaar symbolizes how Istanbul has been a business center of the Middle East and the Balkans.
