Bulgarian Road Carriers Threaten to Block Border with Greece Permanently

Bulgarian road carriers on Wednesday said they will set up a permanent "counter-blockade" on the border with Greece unless farmers on the other side of the border end their protest.

Protesters have renewed blockade at two of the checkpoints along the border between Bulgaria and Greece.

The Kulata-Promachonas and Ilinden-Exochi checkpoints are closed to trucks, the interior ministry informs.

The blockade at Ilinden was staged at 22 o'clock (EET) on Tuesday, while Kulata was closed at 5 o'clock on Wednesday.

Bulgarian Minister: Losses Arising from Latest Greek Blockade to Exceed EUR 10 M

According to Bulgarian Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski, the losses arising from the latest blockade staged by Greek farmers on the border with Bulgaria will exceed EUR 10 M.

In an interview for private bTV station on Tuesday, Moskovski reminded that Greek farmers have been staging illegal blockades at the border with Bulgaria several times since 2007.
