Cyprus Returns Smuggled Jewellery Items to Bulgaria

Cyprus has returned to Bulgaria three ancient pieces of jewellery, part of Bulgaria`s cultural heritage.

According to cyprus-mail.com, the items were smuggled to Cyprus through the post in 2006 and were withheld by customs authorities under legislation for tracing and returning cultural items smuggled to an EU member state.

Nevena Arsic jewelry exhibited at Ethnographic Museum

BELGRADE - The exhibition of jewelry by Nevena Arsic, inspired by the antique jewelry from Serbian archaeological sites dating from the Late Antique and Early Byzantine periods and medieval Serbian jewelry, will be opened at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade on Tuesday.

Arsic will present necklaces, bracelets, rings, hairpins and earrings made of copper or fine silver.

'Blue Belle' sapphire sets new world record

A sapphire known as the Blue Belle of Asia has set a new world record after selling for more than 17 million dollars at a rare jewellery auction in Geneva, Christie's said.
     
The 392.52-carat gem was snapped up by a private collector Tuesday night for 16.965 million Swiss Francs ($17.29 million, 13.87 million euros), the highest ever for a sapphire at auction.
      

Archaeologists Discover Richly Decorated XVIII c. Grave

Archaeologists found the grave of a young woman, laid to rest with all her jewels in an area near Bulgaria's Pernik, reports Darik radio. 

Together with the skeleton of the young woman, who died in the end of the XVIII c. were found the bones of a baby, which was most likely in its mother's womb when she died. Experts in anthropology are still to define the baby's exact age.
