Turkey marked May 3 International Press Freedom Day amid growing concerns for the state of press freedom in the country.

International press organizations have called for the release of jailed journalists in Turkey in a meeting they held at the Turkish Journalists' Association's (TGC) headquarters in Istanbul's Çağlayan district.
74 journalists killed worldwide in 2016: Reporters Without Borders
At least 74 journalists have been killed around the world in 2016 while doing their job, Reporters Without Borders said on Dec. 19.
The press freedom group said that this figure had declined from 101 from 2015, but "this significant fall is due in part to the fact that more and more journalists are fleeing countries that have become too dangerous."
Syria "most deadly country for journalists"
The number of journalists killed in the line of duty is on track to decline in 2016 from recent record levels, says the Committee to Protect Journalists.

110 Journalists Killed Worldwide in 2015 - Reporters Without Borders
According to the annual round-up of Reporters Without Borders released on Tuesday, a total of 110 journalists were killed in connection with their work or for unclear reasons in the course of 2015.
At least 67 of these journalists were killed while reporting or because of their work, with the circumstances or motives behind the murder of the remaining 43 remaining unclear.
