Ukrainian forces have counterattacked in the country's south, claiming to have pushed back Russian troops near three villages in the Kherson region, as President Volodymyr Zelensky made his first visit to the embattled east since the start of the war.

According to the deputy head of the regional military-civil administration, Kyryl Stremousov, the goal is to become a Russian region.
"We do not plan to be a separate independent republic. Our main task is to be region within the Russian Federation," Stremousov told RIA Novosti.

The ruble will be introduced in the Russian-controlled Kherson region of Ukraine on May 1, a spokesman for the region's pro-Russian military-civil administration said.

In Sunny Beach, Ukrainians organized a procession to thank hoteliers, volunteers and all the people who participated with help for refugees from Ukraine.

Thousands chanted "thank you" for the support given to their compatriots. According to Ukrainian Alexandra, the procession is intended to show gratitude for Bulgarian hospitality.

The governor of the Kherson region Yurii Odarchenko claimed the occupation authorities in Crimea wrecked the installations of the North Crimean canal. 

According to Odarchenko, quoted by the wire agency Ukrinform, said they seized the canal and tried to draw water from open reservoirs, but wrecked the installations instead.
