Romanian climber Gavan ascends Gasherbrum 2, elevation 8,035m

Romanian climber Alex Gavan on July 18 ascended Gasherbrum 2, elevation 8,035 meters, of Mount Karakorum, Pakistan, without using additional oxygen or Sherpas, according to a press statement released on Tuesday. This is Gavan's seventh successful climb of a peak with an elevation higher than 8,000m.

Anastasiades to meet Akinci next month

The informal meeting between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci is scheduled to take place on August 9 at 10.30 p.m., according to government spokesperson Prodromos Prodromou.

Turkey to send Oruc Reis research vessel to Med in August, minister says

Ankara will dispatch the Oruc Reis research vessel to the Eastern Mediterranean in August, Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez has said.

The minister denied reports that the Fatih drillship has discovered natural gas in the region and said that it will complete its activities in three to four weeks.
