‘Melancholy’ at heart of Turkish films, says Oscars Academy chief
"Hüzün" is a word sometimes untranslatable. It is a theme, it is a feeling, it is a state of mind for many writers and film directors in Turkey. "Hüzün" means melancholy, and John Bailey, a cinematographer currently heading the Oscars Academy, says it is an integral part of Turkish film-making, as well as international ones.

Slippery slope
The Greek political system has a unique ability to lose its bearings and sink to terrible lows. When this happens, it tends to involve the country in a lot of unnecessary drama, as everything becomes deeply personal and mercenary. 'Toxic' takes word-of-the-year crown
Stemming from the Ancient Greek word "toxikon," the English word "toxic" has been crowned as the word of year in 2018 by Oxford Dictionaries.
According to the dictionary, the word was the one that best captured the "ethos, mood, or preoccupations" of 2018. The word was judged to "have lasting potential as a term of cultural significance."

More than 500,000 adults attend 'literacy courses'
In February, a campaign dubbed "Mobilization for Literacy" was launched to teach adults how to read and write. Since its launch, 504,985 women and 59,466 male have attended the program in over the past eight months.
