Turkey says would retaliate against US sanctions over Russian S-400s

Turkey will "take reciprocal steps" if the United States imposes sanctions over the purchase of Russian S-400 defense systems, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.

The Turkish lira weakened briefly to 5.9075 against US dollar after the comment, to its weakest level in two weeks.

Top French diplomat due in Turkey for bilateral talks

The Turkish and French top diplomats, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Jean Yves Le Drian, will meet in the Turkish capital on June 13 to discuss a wide-range of issues including the Syrian war, the tension in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and Turkey's troubled European Union agenda as well as bilateral political issues.

In a letter to European Union member countries and the foreign ministers of the United Nations Security Council's permanent members, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday that the area off the western coast of Cyprus where Ankara plans to conduct exploratory drilling lies entirely within Turkish continental shelf.

Turkish FM denies delaying Russian S-400 deal

Turkey's procurement of the Russian-made S-400 air defense systems are not going to be postponed or halted, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said, noting that Ankara and Washington are continuing to exchange views to establish a committee to assess the impact of its purchase of the Russian missile defenses systems on the U.S. F-35 fighter jets.
