Teenage muggers arrested in Thessaloniki

Police arrested five teenagers and an adult and are looking for another suspect in connection with 19 muggings on the premises of Thessaloniki's Aristotle University and in nearby areas.

According to local reports, the perpetrators mostly preyed on young students, whom they robbed at knifepoint, making off with mobile phones and cash.

Athens police crack down on distracted driving

Athens traffic police said Thursday they meted out fines to some 259 people in one day for holding and using their cell phones while driving.

The violations were noted on Wednesday when officers hit the streets to clamp down on the phenomenon of drivers holding a mobile phone in one hand while holding the wheel with the other.

MLS launches MAIC in Serbia

Thessaloniki-based MLS Innovation on Thursday announced its entry into the Serbian market.

It has adapted its voice recognition (MAIC) system for the Serbian language, to allow Serbs for the first time to speak to their cell phones, smartphones and tablets in their own language to make a call, send a text or browse the internet using their voice alone.

Prosecutor objects to acquittal of police officer suspected of rape in Turkey’s Mardin

The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in the southeastern province of Mardin has objected to the acquittal of a police officer accused of raping a 21-year-old woman, with one of the grounds for his acquittal being that “the woman had phone numbers of multiple men among the contacts on her mobile phone.” 

Eleven people killed on Attica roads in February

Eleven people were killed in 11 road accidents in February in Attica, according to figures made public by the Traffic Police on Thursday.

During the same period, 438 people were injured in 369 accidents. Of those, 14 were seriously injured.

According to a police statement, the cause of most of the accidents was careless driving or violation of the highway code.
