Vandals smash offices to protest foreclosures

A group of masked assailants Thursday smashed the windows of an office building in the southern Athens neighborhood of Kallithea.

The office is being used by a company that expressed interest in taking part in the electronic auction of homes foreclosed upon due to their original residents being unable to make payments.

Paralympian accused of murdering employee claims self-defense

A 39-year-old Paralympic athlete was set to face an investigating magistrate on Monday after fatally shooting a 47-year-old man who worked for him at an OPAP betting store managed by the accused in Moschato, southern Athens, on Friday.

The athlete claimed he was acting in self-defense, saying the victim threatened him and his family.

One armed robber caught, two escape after shootout in southern Athens

One man was arrested but another two escaped after they fired at police in Moschato, southern Athens, on Sunday night.

Officers said that the car the three men were travelling in failed to stop for a police check. A chase ensued, leading to the men abandoning the vehicle and opening fire. Nobody was injured.

Islamic center in Athens neighborhood of Moschato vandalized

Authorities on Friday were investigating a predawn attack against the Greek-Arab Educational and Cultural Center in the southern Athens suburb of Moschato.

Unknown individuals sprayed anti-Islamic slogans and placed a pig’s head in front of the building’s entrance. They also sprayed a red Christian cross on the door and threw blue paint on the brick walls of the center.
