 Lawmakers detained pending trial to get permission to attend immunity votes

Detained lawmakers of the ultra-right Golden Dawn party who face having their immunity to prosecution lifted are to be given permission to attend Parliament on the days that the House is due to discuss their cases, Kathimerini has learned.

Four Golden Dawn MPs who had their parliamentary immunity lifted so they could face charges of being part of a criminal gang were given more time on Monday to prepare themselves before facing magistrates.

An investigation into neofascist Golden Dawn has turned to the possible involvement of police officers in the party’s alleged criminal activities following a report submitted to the prosecutors handling the case by the internal affairs division of the Greek Police.

Nikos Michaloliakos, leader of the neofascist Golden Dawn party who has been in custody pending trial for setting up a criminal organization since late September, is to remain in Korydallos Prison for another six months, according to a decision by the Athens Council of Appeals Court Judges that was made public on Thursday.
