Credit ratings agency S&P on Friday revised its outlook on Greece to "positive" from "stable," saying the tight fiscal regime will continue to spur a reduction in the government debt ratio.

A new poll by Metron Analysis for Mega TV has shown gains for ruling New Democracy and main opposition SYRIZA, and losses for socialist PASOK and nationalist Greek Solution. 

More specifically, ND rose from 31.4% in its previous poll to 32.3%, while SYRIZA garnered 15.4% from 15.1%. PASOK fell by one point to 12%, from 13%. 

With less than two months to go before the European Parliament elections on June 9, the campaign has entered a crucial phase with tours by political leaders and party committees being a key element.

Less than two months ahead of the European Parliament elections, ruling New Democracy, to its relief, has found that it can focus on one main rival, not two.

Having a single bogeyman to attack and attempt to delegitimize is the sine qua non - literally "without which, not" - precondition for every successful election campaign.

Fredi Beleri, an ethnic Greek mayor-elect in Albania sentenced to two years in prison in March for vote-buying, is unlikely to be a candidate for the European Parliament with Greece's ruling party, New Democracy, in June's European Parliament election, Kathimerini understands.

Managing public opinion is one of the tasks of every government. Some governments understand this process as a necessary, continuous, systematic explanation of their strategy to the country's citizens, to make it understandable and remove any unavoidable obstacles to its implementation. 

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his government find themselves in an enviable but precarious position - both dominant and fragile at the same time. They have no rival at the party level but face the critical mass of the country's problems, which were highlighted in the most tragic fashion by the train collision at Tempe and all that has followed.

In response to SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis' request for early polls, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed Tuesday that national elections will be held at the end of his government's four-year term. 

This year New Democracy, Greece's ruling party, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. As the main political force of the center right, ND had been at the forefront of re-establishing democracy in 1974, under the leadership of Konstantinos Karamanlis who returned from exile that year and founded the party.
