With an increased majority, the ruling party ND (New Democracy) and PASOK-KINAL voted for the Ministry of Finance and National Economy’s bill “Ratification of the 18.7.2024 Merger and Investment Agreement between the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund and the limited liability company THRIVEST HOLDING LTD” for the merger of Attica Bank with Pancreta Bank in the plenary session.

The Constitution of 1975 was significantly different from today’s version, as it has undergone four revisions since then. It was passed exclusively by the overwhelming parliamentary majority of the New Democracy (ND) party, which held 220 seats following the November 1974 elections, without the participation of the opposition.

SYRIZA-PS president Stefanos Kasselakis continues his recent criticism in light of developments at Attica Bank.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the Council of Foreign Relations, emphasised that while Turkey’s revisionist stance remains unchanged, there have been constructive developments concerning overflights and migration.

This week kicked off with two former prime ministers and leaders of New Democracy - Antonis Samaras and Konstantinos Karamanlis - launching maybe the most severe criticism of Prime Minister Mitsotakis and his leadership that we've heard so far, touching on foreign and domestic policy.

A clear message in all directions, to ministers, MPs and executives of the New Democracy, was the impeachment of Lefteris Avgenakis by decision of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Mr. Avgenakis was the first secretary of Mr. Mitsotakis since he took over the reins of ND in 2016, while for 5 consecutive years, until the recent reshuffle, he held ministerial positions.

Greece's governing center-right party on Wednesday booted out a lawmaker and former minister who allegedly manhandled an airport worker who wouldn't let him board a domestic flight he'd turned up late for.

MP Lefteris Avgenakis has been officially expelled from the New Democracy parliamentary group after footage emerged on Wednesday showing him assaulting an airport employee. 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred him to the party's ethics committee, which decided to have him expelled.
