Triumph Thursday for Greens and Reds in Euroleague

Thursday was a glorious night for the Greeks in Europe, with Olympiakos embarrassing Barcelona with a 34-point triumph and Panathinaikos restoring its home advantage with a brave victory away over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Olympiakos swept Barcelona 92-58 at home to tie their Euroleague quarterfinal series 2-2 and take it to a fifth game in Spain next week.

Greens and Reds both on a 1-1 series score

Both Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are now on a 1-1 score in their Euroleague playoff series, after the Greens defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday and the Reds went down at Barcelona on Friday.

At the Olympic Sports Hall in Athens, Panathinaikos bounced back from its four-point loss on Tuesday to win Game 2 with a 95-79 score.

Reds conquer Barcelona, Greens lose to Maccabi

Olympiakos has taken the lead in its Euroleague playoff battle with Barcelona scoring a road win on Wednesday in Game 1, while Panathinaikos has conceded home advantage to Maccabi Tel Aviv losing in Athens on Tuesday.

The Reds beat Barcelona 77-75 and have taken the upper hand in the best-of-five playoffs that lead to Berlin's Final Four next month.

Greens and Reds lose on the road

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos had difficult road games on Thursday in the Euroleague and both suffered losses, that should not matter too much come the end of regular season.

Panathinaikos went down 90-75 in Belgrade against Maccabi Tel Aviv for its ninth loss in 23 matches.

Last-gasp wins for persistent Reds and Greens

Olympiakos was rewarded for its persistence and defeated visiting Monaco on Thursday, as did Panathinaikos at Valencia on Friday, in a positive end of the week for Greek teams in the Euroleague.

Olympiakos outfoxed Monaco at the end of their game at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus to win 75-73 for its 11th victory in 19 matches.
