One Belt, One Road

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged world leaders to reject protectionism on May 15 at a summit positioning Beijing as a champion of globalization, as some countries raised concerns over his trade ambitions.

BEIJING - Serbian PM and President-elect Aleksandar Vucic, who will travel to China on Saturday for a several-day official visit, has said there were no unresolved issues between the two countries and that Serbia and China were always on the same side.

Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged $124 billion on May 14 for his ambitious new Silk Road plan to forge a path of peace, inclusiveness and free trade, and called for the abandonment of old models based on rivalry and diplomatic power games.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that the two countries should deepen counter-terrorism cooperation, amid Chinese concern about ethnic Uighurs from its Xinjiang region fighting with militants in the Middle East.

China's Belt and Road initiative to re-create the Silk Road will help defeat terrorism, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said May 14, adding that Turkey would lend all manner of support to the project, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported. 

Athens's aim to forge closer and deeper ties with China received a boost at the weekend with Chinese President Xi Jinping insisting in Beijing that both countries should expand their cooperation in the fields of energy, telecommunications and infrastructure.

Prime minister and President-elect Aleksandar Vucic, who will start his visit to China on Saturday, says Serbia and China are "always on the same side."

While in Beijing, Vucic will have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and participate in the Forum for International Cooperation within the framework of the One Belt, One Road strategy.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Saturday with the intent of signing a memorandum of cooperation to boost Chinese investments in Greece.

China hosts on May 14 a summit showcasing its ambitious drive to revive ancient Silk Road trade routes and lead a new era of globalization, just as Washington turns inward in favor of "America First" policies.

Talks between Athens and Beijing over an extensive long-term economic cooperation agreement are at an advanced stage.
