Year 1 CE (as in ‘Covid Era’)

Since March, the world resembles a disaster movie. For their plot, screenwriters follow a proven model: scientists warn about a threat—an earthquake, a volcano, a virus, a meteor, or a terrorist attack; politicians ignore the warning because of ignorance, stupidity, or opportunism; when the disaster occurs, some heroes save the day.

Amnesia and schadenfreude

If the customary rules of two-party politics were in place, we would have to assert that the refugee issue was a national issue and, as such, should not be exploited by an opportunistic opposition for reasons of political expediency. But these rules are no more. No one really expects of the main opposition to show self-restraint.

Ideology's orphans

These days it is as if there are no ideas nor strategies, only the opportunistic use of images and phrases, accusations and fairy tales, whenever this serves the interests of the speaker.

The madman of the Middle East

?He [the madman] ? explained the extremity of his actions as president ? as necessary to achieve ?subjective immunity? against foreign plots and influences.

?[His] ideological rationalization for a lifelong pattern [is] all actions are justified if they are in the service of furthering [his] needs and ambitions.

DIMAR’s demise

In the months that followed Greece’s 2012 national election, the Democratic Left (DIMAR) party of Fotis Kouvelis, a moderate socialist, went on to shoulder part of the responsibility in the bid to rescue the debt-hit country, joining the coalition government along with conservative New Democracy and socialist PASOK.
