Bursa court halts municipality's 'favorable' rental to Ensar Foundation upon CHP complaint

A court in the northwestern Turkish province of Bursa has suspended a contract for the rental of a historical building to the Ensar Foundation, upon a complaint by the local branch of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).

Municipality accused of favoritism in Ensar rental

The Osmangazi district municipality in Turkey's northwestern province of Bursa has allegedly rented a 1500-square-meter, newly-renovated historical building to the Ensar Foundation, which recently hit headlines after reports surfaced that a teacher had sexually assaulted eight male students in one of its rented apartments, for an amount much lower than the building's market value.

Historical bath in Bursa up for sale

The historical Oruçbey Bath, located in the Osmangazi district of Turkey's northwestern province of Bursa, has been put on the market for $1.65 million. 

The bath was built in the 15th century in the Hisar neighborhood of Osmangazi, and one of its current owners, Arife Varol, said it was inherited by her and five other siblings from her father.  

Large fire at textile plant causes fear

A textile factory in the northwestern provinces of Bursa caught fire July 28, triggering fears that the blaze could spread.

Firefighters on the ground intervened against the fire in Osmangazi while receiving support from the air. Smoke over the plant was visible from many parts of the city.

Twenty-five teams of firefighters have been battling to extinguish the fire.
