Bosnian Capital’s Vote to Shorten School Classes in Ramadan Draws Criticism

The Sarajevo Cantonal Assembly, one of ten cantons in Bosnia's mainly Bosniak and Croat-dominated Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity, has voted to shorten school classes in the Muslim Ramadan to give extra time to observant pupils and teachers to break the religious fast. 

Bosnians Urged to Vote as Local Polls Open

More than 5,000 polling stations opened Sunday at 7am as voters were urged to go out and cast ballots in Bosnia's local elections.

"There is no reason why, on October 2, you shouldn't take a small amount of time to go to the polling station and circle the option that suits you," Ahmed Santic, president of the Central Election Commission, CIK, told the media.

Bosnia Struggles to Tighten Gambling Regulations

Bosnia has no an effective gambling law, despite having the highest registered number of betting shops per resident in Europe.

"We aren't satisfied by the current regulation," Nermana Mehic-Basara, a neuropsychiatrist and director the Public Institute for Addiction Diseases in Sarajevo, told BIRN on Thursday.
